Myth 1: Enterprise is the toughest test of all the core exams.
Answer: From my experience of having passed 5 tests already including all the
core exams and TCP/IP, Enterprise is by far the easiest test. Yes, you do
need to study, but which of Microsoft Tests can you pass without studying?
Myth 2: You have to have some "Field Experience" to pass Enterprise.
Answer: I had not even heard of NT until May of this year (1998). And I have
yet to put in one minute of work time on a network, I was a Realtor for 16
years. This is a career change for me and I am very excited to learn this new
material, and if you dedicate yourself to study, research and learn, you can
pass the test.
Myth 3: Scenario questions are the hardest.
Answer: Actually, the scenario questions are the easiest. Just start reading
from the bottom, see how many different multiple choices you have to choose
from, see what has been implemented and see what each implementation solves.
For instance, if you need to speed up log on time and there is no mention of
putting a BDC in the remote site, question is done. Why waste time with every
thing else?
Myth 4: They don't give you enough time to take the test.
Answer: If you know the material, and read each question the first time
through carefully and thoroughly, you will finish quickly. I had left 3
unanswered, and 15 marked. I went back and did the unanswered and then the
marked. The whole thing only took 45 minutes.
Now, for some useful material with my reasoning for my answers. I will not
put the questions down "word for word" so I don't infringe on any copyright
material. The questions will be "loosely paraphrased" but you will recognize
them when you get the test. The stuff can get a little "dry" at times, so I
have thrown in a little humor, so bear with me. You will get the "gist" of
the questions.
1. You have three domains, one master, two resource which trust the master.
You want to do the backing ups
Required: Create a Global Backup Group in the master domain.
You need to back up all domain controllers in the network.
Optional: To back up all member servers.
To back up all workstations.
Proposed: Make the Global group Backup in the Master Domain. Make the local
groups in each domain. Assign the special users rights to the local groups:
Backup and Restore Files. Put the Global group in each local group.
This only solves the required as there is no way to backup the member servers
and workstations with these rights.
(I got 100% on configuration)
______________________________________________________________________
2. Same scenario but with the change in the proposed solution to putting the
Global Group in each "Back Up" operators group on each Domain Controller,
Member Server, and Workstation.
This does meet the required and both optional items.
______________________________________________________________________
3. I will not try to type the long printing scenario with the Management,
Marketing and Accounting Departments. Just read each item and see what each
item meets, and all the other dumps say that all required and optional
statements are met. If you read in thoroughly, and understand print
permissions, you will agree.

4. You are checking the disk performance of a client in your domain and see
that, although the disks are being used, the statistics are at zero. Why?
a. Disk Manager has not been started on the workstation.
b. Diskperf -y has not been started on the workstation.
c. Workstation service does not run on the workstation
d. Server service does not run on the workstation
The obvious answer is "b" because this is how you activate the the disk
auditing.
______________________________________________________________________
5. You have a server that is used for logon and WINS traffic. How can you
optimize the performance of this server using the server prgram in control
panel?
a. Minimize memory
b. Balance
c. Optimize for file sharing
d. Optimize for Network Applications
There has been quite a bit of discussion on this subject. The Transcenders
have the wrong answer and several braindumps have the wrong answer. The
correct answer here is "D" Microsoft states very clearly that all DOMAIN
CONTROLLERS should be configured with "Optimize for Network Applications" and
since this server is used for "Logons/Account Validation", it is obviously a
Domain Controller. And isn't that what the Domain Controller is for, Network
work? How do I know I am right? Because I got 100% on "Monitoring and
Optimization"

6. You are using NT on a server and have 6 hard disks. One is for the system
partition and the other 5 are in a stripe set. Lightning hits one of the hard
drives and slightly damages it, what do you do after you replace the hard
drive?
a. Choose extend volume set in the partition menu
b. Choose make stripe set and back up from tape
c. Choose regenerate and back up from tape
d. Choose make stripe set with parity and back up from tape
The answer is "b" because in a stipe set, if one disk is "fried" all data is
lost and you need to make a new stipe set and back up from tape. A stripe set
is not "regenerational", it has to be recreated.
______________________________________________________________________
7. You have an NT server with 6 hard drives, one hard drive has the system
partition and the other five are arrayed in a Stipe Set with Parity. A mouse
goes "wee wee" on one hard drive and it drips onto a second hard drive,
destroying both of them. After you clean up the mess and replace the two
"wet" hard drives, what do you do next?
a. Choose extend volume set in the partition menu
b. Choose regenerate in the fault tolerance menu
c. Choose make stipe set with parity and restore from backup
d. Do nothing, NT will recreate the stripe set when you reboot (not boot)
computer
First of all, stop storing cheese inside your computer (and stop using your
CD-ROM tray as a coffee cup holder). And since two disks were damaged, you
have to make a whole new stripe set and restore from backup because all data
is now lost. Answer is "C"

8. There was a question about Maria not being able to get her "stuff" and you
have to look at two exhibits to see what groups she belongs too. This one is
a little tricky because in one of the exhibits they highlight one line that
has nothing to do with the question. Just remember, if she is in a group that
has NO ACCESS to a file, folder or directory, guess what, she is SWA (stopped
without access) Just make sure you look at the exhibits carefully, there
were two here.

9. You have already captured 800 packets using NetMon. Now you want to see
the packets from a particular computer. How can you display the packets you
want?
a. Use the protocol display filter
b. Use the address display filter
c. Use the "sort by" in the capture window to sort by address
d. Use the address Database
This is a change from anything I have seen in the braindumps. The other
braindumps talk about using a "capture filter" but since the packets are
already captured, the horse is gone from the barn, and it is too late to use a
capture filter. So this time, Micorsoft did a little change in the choices,
using an "Excel" option, which is rather cute. The correct answer is "b", use
the address display filter. The capture window will allow you to display by
protocol, address and some other "stuff". Again, how do I know? I got 100%
in monitoring.

10. I had the two Broker questions about getting into the network through
RAS. Without going into all the details, neither one had any mention of
Encrypting the Date, so neither one met one of the optional items. There is a
lot of talk on other braindumps about this one, quite a bit of it is wrong.
There is no mention in the questions about "maximizing security" only
"providing security" so the "set by caller" option is not necessary to provied
some level of security. And since all NT and other Microsoft stuff encrypts
passwords anyway, no need to be redundant about it. And the hardware security
host does not do much either, and it does not encrypt the data. You may want
to research this a little, see how MS wants security configured on RAS. I did
miss one question on "connectivity" and maybe this was one of them, but I
really feel that I am right on these two question.
______________________________________________________________________
11. If you need to check on any additions, deletions, screw ups and other
miscellaneous caboodles on the Directory Database, how can you track these
items?
You will get the actual "window" here with all the choices available.
Remember, any work done on the Directory Database has to be audited through
the Audit User and Group Management item under "success". Just put the little
plus sign on this box and click it good.

12. You want to configure your IIS server to handle a bunch of companies WWW
things. They all are big spenders and have their own Registered Domain Name.
What do you need to do on your server? Choose all the apply.
a. Assign multiple IP's to the network adapter
b. Assign the same IP to each company name on DNS
c. Assign separate IP to each WWW folder
d. Use DHCP to assign IP to Netbios name
"A" and "C" are the correct answer here. Since you are dealing with the
"net", the InterNIC will handle all DNS functions. All you need to do is to
assign the multilple IP's and the separate IP's to each WWW folder.

13. Some poor loser (I mean user) has a workstation that is not part of the
domain. He or she wants to get at the "Domain/Sales" folder! (Why, I don't
know, the test did not say) What can we do to help this poor lost soul? (Only
get two chances here)
a. Enable Guest Account
b. Duplicate the user accounts on the Workstation into the domain
c. Make user Accounts of Workstation a member of the appropriate group for
Sales
d. Create a duplicate account for each group account on the Workstation.
So this guy wants to get mired into the domain so he can get at the sales
folder. Well, we could enable the guest account so he/she could get in, so
"A" would work. We can assume there is an account on the workstation, so we
could make an identical account in the domain for him/her, so "B" would work
too. How can we put this poor lost soul into a group in Sales if he/she does
not even have an account there yet? Same goes for any groups on the
workstation, they don't have any rights to the domain.

14. If you want to use your NT LAN to LAN as an IP Router. And you need the
server to recognize other routers, if they are removed (?) added or moved?
What do you need?
a. RIP for NWLink for compatible transportation
b. RIP for Internet Protocol
c. DHCP relay runner
d. SAP
The only way to get information exchanged between routers is to use the RIP
for IP in an NT environment, therefore, let us mark "B" here. I guess you
could manually update all the routers every time there was a change, but that
was not a choice.
______________________________________________________________________
15. If you want to move Netware accounts onto the NT server and there might
be some duplicate names, how should you proceed? (besides giving up!)
a. Use default migration settings
b. Overwrite duplicate names
c. Use a mapping file
d. Migrate users one at a time, using the two finger typing method.
It is recommended that if there is a chance there might be some duplicates and
you need to save the passwords, you need to use the mapping file so "C" here.
______________________________________________________________________
16. If you are going to do some Netware Migration, this fall, onto an NT
server, and you want to keep the security, what do you need on the NT server?
a. TCP/IP
b. NWLink
c. FAT
d. NTFS
NTFS is the only way to provide compatible security with Novell, so "D" here.
______________________________________________________________________
17. What tools do you need to MEASURE the performance for a baseline? Choose
all that apply.
a. Microsoft Excel
b. Response Probe
c. Permormance Monitor
d. Network Monitor
I have seen quite a bit here on this, about half say to use response probe and
half say do not use it. Since I got 100% on "Monitoring and Optimization", I
think I might have gotten this right. The only correct answer here is "C &
D". Excel is used to view data collected. Response Probe, which does not
even come with NT but with the Resource Kit, only "applies" artificial load to
the network to see where a weakness might be, it does not MEASURE it.
Hopefully, this will put an end to the questions about Response Probe.

18. If your file and print server is slow and you suspect there might be high
utilization of the disk, what counter should you monitor?
a. Logical Disk
b. Paging File
c. Physical Disk
d. Hard Drive Diagnostics
Since the server is slow with the reads and writes to the disk, and this most
likely would include more than one physical location in storage, you need the
Logical Disk counter to measure this (and you do this through using diskperf
-y)
______________________________________________________________________
19. How do you set the locations of home directories for HALF the users?
a. %homepath%
b. %username%
c. %homerun%
d. %userprofile%
With Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa doing so well, c looked good to me. But, I
think Microsoft would like to see the username as part of the home directory
default roadway, so the answer is "B"

20. Several questions on what types of domains to used in certain situation.
One was a University Campus with 75,000 computers (wow, where is that
university) and all the department heads want control of their own resources.
The Answer is to use the Multiple Master Domain.
Another one about 75 uses and the administrator wants complete control of the
users and resources. Very easy here, the Single Domain.
Another one about multiple locations and the administrator wants to have
control of all user accounts but the "lost" administrators want to control
their own resources, so let's put in a single master domain.
Just know the four main domain models and when to use them. Single Domain,
Single Master Domain, Multiple Domain and Complete Trust.

21. Snow Whites wicked step mother stole one of your mirrors from you mirror
set (she needed it to bake some apples or something). Now your fault
tolerance is non existant and your boss wants you to fix it. How do you do it
correctly?
a. Replace the missing disk with an identical diskand do nothing more, NT
will regenerate the mirror
b. Replace the missing disk with an identical disk and choose recreate from
the Partition menu in Disk Administrator
c. Replace the missing disk with an identical disk and choose regenerate from
the Fault Tolerance menu in Disk Administrator
d. Replace the missing disk, break the original mirror set and create a new
mirror set.
Now, we know the Seven Dwarfs would like to help, but all they know is
precious stones, we need an MCSE or MCSE to be to fix this one. Since the
original mirror set still exists in the mind of NT, you need to "break" it,
and then you need to create a new one, so "D" is the answer.

22. You are installing NT server 4.0 onto a machine. You want this machine
to provide file and print resources to the losers (I mean users) on the corp
domain but you don't want it to be bothered with a bunch of door knocking
(logons). How would you configure this machine?
a. As a PDC in the domain
b. As a BCD in the domain
c. As a member server in the domain
d. As a member server in a workgroup
e. As an Oak Door
Since we can't be bothered with any "door knocking" (logons), that eliminate
a,b and e. And since you are on a domain, the workgroup will not work. So, I
guess we will go with "C" and let some other machine answer the door.

23. A Beautiful Blue Screen greets you in the morning, looking like a Rocky
Mountain sky with some sky writing on it. You want to get to work (why?) but
the computer just reminds you of a deep blue sky. How do you get your machine
"back to earth?"
a. Boot from the Emergency Repair Disk and Repair the system
b. Boot from the Setup Disks and use the Emergency Repair Process
c. Re-Install NT and hope you get the right SID
d. Kick the computer
Well, d would be the choice of favor here because you would rather be snow
skiing at Vail instead of being at work. But, it is not recommended by MS. C
might be fun to try, good luck, then you can reinstall NT on every computer
for practice. And since you can't boot from the ERD, you will have to boot
from the setup disks and use the Emergency Repair Process, answer is "B" here.
______________________________________________________________________
24. You accidentally took your "Emergency Repair Disk" home and your kid's
new puppy thought it was a new chew toy, wow, you should see him go. Before
you have to explain to your boss how your dog ate your homework, what can you
do to make a new ERD?
a. Run winnt.exe from the Setup DC
b. Run RDISK.EXE at the command prompt
c. start the computer from the boot disk and copy Ntldr, Ntdetect.com,
Ntoskrnl, ese and Bootsect.Dos
d. make a copy of a co-workers ERD
Winnt.exe is for making the three setup disks. No need to start from a boot
disk. And since system configuration is unique to each computer, a co-workers
ERD would not help. So, like MS says, use the RDISK to make another ERD, so
"B" should be the answer here.
______________________________________________________________________
25. You want to provide a system uniform policy for all the workstations in
your NT network. Where should you store the NTConfig.pol file that contains
these system policies so that each user's local policy is automatically
modified when she logs onto the domain?
a. in each user's home directory on the PDC
b. in each user's shared profile folder on the PDC
c. in the \Netlogon folder on the PDC
d. in the \Winnt\Policies\%username% folder on each workstation
Since the \Netlogon is what is accessed when a user signs on, it only makes
sense to use that folder for the uniform policy, so "C" here.
______________________________________________________________________
26. If logons are slow, you need to add more BDC's to the network.
______________________________________________________________________
27. You get the following prompt: "Windows NT could not start because the
following file is missing or corrupt: \winnt root\system32\ntoskrnl.Exe.
Please reinstall a copy of the above file." Although NT is not in the default
directory of \winnt, you know the Ntoskrnl.Exe is present somewhere on the
hard drive. What is most likely the problem?
a. The Ntldr is missing
b. the NTdetect.Com is missing
c. The Bootsect.Dos is missing
d. the Boot.ini is missing.
You will get the message in the question when the Boot.ini file is missing.
You will also get this message if the wrong path name to the Ntoskrnl is
wrong.

28. What frame header id's packets that are used to assign IP address to
network computers?
a. a WINS header
b. a DHCP header
c. an IP header
d. an SMB header
DHCP is the protocol used to assign IP address to network computers so "B" is
the answer here.

Now you may be wondering what I used to study for the SITE test. There were
four main things I used.
1. An Enterprise class at a Certified Microsoft Training Center
2. The Transcenders (but be careful, there are a few mistakes here)
3. Exam Cram, great memory refresher
4. This site and the cramsession.com site.
The PEP tests did not help at all here, although they did help on the NE test.
You need to have "confidence" with the material, understand the main items of
Enterprise - Domains, Trusts, Fault Tolerance, Permissions, Optimization
Now, if any of you want to email me to tell me how bad my humor is, or to ask
any questions about the Enterprise test, feel free to.
