***System Tuning and Optimization***
Familiarize with Performance Monitor.
pages/sec < 5 is ok (>= 5 means that disk thrashing is
occuring)and therefore more memory is needed.
pages/sec * average disk sec/transfer > 10 means more memory
needed.
Processorqueue length > 2 means the processor is to slow.
Paging file size= ram + 11MB(o/s)
Can have 1 per logical disk. Better performance if 1 per physical
disk. If a possible answer is: "one per physical except for the one
containing the system partition" I would choose it for highest
optimization.
If paging file is using alot of cpu time to expand then increase the
minimum paging file size in the virtual memory dialog box.
Changing application response times (priorities).
Foreground/background (more responsive/less responsive or
equally responsive or less resp/more resp) start /high command
boosts a progs priority to 13 from the normal 7.
Network Protocol binding order.
Primary protocol should be highest in list.
The hot spots that I would recommend further study on are :
Printing
RAS
Performance optimization (Pagefiles, Threads,
Foreground/Background Responsiveness)
Supporting applications (i.e. OS/2, UNIX, and win16 applications
under NT)
Network OSI reference model
Network Browsing
Installation of Win NT on both i386 and RISC
There are alot of question about automated installations( using
unattend.txt, sysdiff.exe, and a udf file) there are alot of question
about installations.
Netware(CSNW) and Win Wkstn4.0 the proposed solutions are
back in this test... with unattended installations
Ras...using Multilink with call back security, which CANNOT be
done
Printing with a Macintosch printer (need Apple talk)
Upgrading From Win 95 or WFW. How do you delete the old O/S
files(meaning how do you delete the old Win 95 files or WFW
files)...which O/S do you install in the same dir for upgrades(WFW)
and which do you install in a seperate dir (win95, because there is
no availble upgrade yet for Win95 and Win4Workstation)
Using the "Last Known Config" in the Startup
Knowing What error messege appears when a boot-up file is
missing or corrupt(ntldr, bootsect.dos, boot.ini,etc...)
Monitoring different processes(Especially perfmon, and task
Manager, and event viewer)
Which is better for searching the Registry> Regedit.exe or
Regedt32 (regedit.exe)
Unfortunatally Know about Dr. Watson!!!! Don't ask me why. But
most likely the question will be about monitoring the
APPLICATION stop error, which you need to check "Create a
Crash Dump" >>>Dont be confused with a Stop error , which you
need to check "write debugging info to... in the System COntrol
Panel icon.
If you know the subjects above pretty well the you should find the
rest of the exam pretty easy.
1. Two ways to reset your password with the NetWare Client.
2. What about multilink with two ISDN cards. How many phone
book entries and/or phone numbers.

about 15 minutes?
4. Unattended installs of Windows NT on 100 identical computers
(SYSDIFF, UDF, UNATTEND.TXT)
5. Reasons you would want to run WIN16 applications in separate
memory - reasons you would not want to run WIN16 applications
in separate memory (like they can share memory if separate).
6. How do you load a network card later, but install the protocols
now? Do you load bogus adapter, then remove?
7. How do you add MIDI adapter?
8. Can shares be created by anyone or is it just the administrator?

versus Volume Sets? Page file? Where do the system files go?

need?
12. What should you do to allow three users to have individual
desktops and security access to their home folders?
13. When you change a general system policy and several users
remain unaffected, what happened?
14. Someone retires, but they have special access rights for
several files. What is the easiest way to give their replacement
access? Can you simply rename the account and reset the
password?

Workstation? Can they go direct by modifying the preferred
server setting?

20. What is one way to get your TCP/IP settings automatically
configured?

systems performance. Should you run the program /high so that it
doesn't affect the system as would /realtime?

security?
28. How do you setup printers for after hours printing? Can you
setup multiple printers for one print device and set certain hours
for them?
29. What kind of print drivers can you install on a Windows NT
Server or Workstation? Is there an option for Windows 95,
Windows NT 3.51, etc.
30. Share permissions are cumulative (unless no access, which
overrides all permissions)
31. Directory and file permissions are cumulative (unless no
access, which overrides all permissions)
32. When directory and share permissions are considered
together, look at the cumulative permission for the share, then
figure out the cumulative permission for the directory and/or file.
After that, the most restrictive permission between the share and
the NTFS directory/file permissions.
